Helena Birch is an artist guide at Tate Modern and retired Head of Art in secondary education
Helena will explore the background and inspiration for the portrait and how Picasso developed the idea of the weeping woman through various paintings including his famous work Guernica. The talk will make reference to the model used and her relationship with Picasso, it will also look at the story behind its acquisition for the nation. The painting is owned by the Tate Gallery and is one of their most iconic and frequently visited art works.
